Using the Average Function

First select the cell were you want to place the function. Then select the Function command under the Insert menu.

When the Insert Function window opens, select Average from the select a category drop-down menu. Click on OK.

The Function Argument Box opens. Excel has intuitively selected the cell range of B2:B7. If the cell range is ok click on OK. Otherwise the cells can be selected using the Collapse dialog button located to the right of the text box containing the cell range. Click here to see how this is done.

The Average Temperature appears in the selected cell. Notice how the function is displayed in the formula bar.
